Women we love. Laverne and Shirley. Didn't we love that show? Especially Shirley. She was a doll. Actress Cindy Williams played the starry-eyed dreamer. Although immensely popular, Laverne and Shirley was not without its critics. When it beat out Jesus of Nazareth in the Nielsen ratings Johnny Carson wondered how the greatest story ever told could come in second behind the worst story ever told.

Like Laverne and Shirley the disco phenomenon began in the 1970s and continued into the 80s. Beats me why such a fun thing went out of style. It's still popular in Latin American countries.

(Below) More 80s sci-fi entertainment from YouTube. The success of Star Wars brought science fiction into the mainstream. In the years to come Star Trek would make a comeback to television but first came the big screen adventures like The Wrath of Khan. Ricardo Montalban reprised his role as Captain's Kirk's old nemesis, and Kirstie Alley was introduced in her first movie role.
